The Canadian Olympic School Program is the Canadian Olympic Committee’s primary education program and aims to reach all students between grades 2-12. As Canada prepares to host the world at the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games, students and teachers will catch the Olympic excitement with free lesson plans, polls, contests, interactive components, the interactions with Canada’s finest athletes. At the elementary school level, students will learn about the values of fairness, excellence, leadership, respect, physical activity, and sustainability through the stories of elite Canadian athletes. Each story is available in three different reading levels: Bronze (grades 2-3), Silver (grades 4-5) and Gold (grades 6-7). The lesson plans link to language arts learning outcomes and will help students explore and internalize these universal values. At the secondary level, students are able to link to applied learning projects that will require them to use acquired skills and theory to solve real life Olympic problems. Check the Canadian Olympic School Program website often, as new material is added regularly. |
