Paralympic School Week is an opportunity for schools to celebrate the spirit and the values of the Paralympic Movement – human interdependence, equity and fairness. During Paralympic School Week, schools have the chance to recognize and celebrate wide-ranging examples of the achievements and successes of people with disabilities engaged in sport, culture or sustainability. Celebrating Paralympic School Week in Your School (PDF, 3.83MB), a guide developed by educators for educators, has suggestions for planning school-wide and curriculum-based activities for a range of grades and subject areas. The guide also identifies useful links and resources to help you and your students organize your own Paralympic School Week or Day. Having a Paralympic athlete visit your school is a great way to educate students about the achievements of people with a disability. Paralympic athletes can also inspire students to strive for excellence and teach the value of dedication and perseverance. More information about bringing a Paralympic Athlete to your school is available on our Athlete Visits page. Additional Paralympic educational resources are also available from the Canadian Paralympic Committee and International Paralympic Committee. |
