What is the Webcast Series?

The Sharing the Dream webcast series uses technology to bring the excitement of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games to classrooms throughout British Columbia and across Canada. The Games are a great opportunity to explore issues relevant to youth that relate to the components of the Vancouver 2010 Education Program : Culture, Sustainability, Sports and Healthy Living, Olympism and Paralympism, as well as the overarching theme of global citizenship. The webcasts are designed to augment what teachers are already doing in their classroom and contain many potential curriculum links.
Each webcast is student-led, with a student team developing questions relevant to young people and then interviewing the webcast guest. Students viewing the live webcast will also have an opportunity to send in questions. The Sharing the Dream webcasts inform students about a topic and also give them ideas and strategies about how they can take action in their communities on these topics. Teacher materials are provided for each webcast to provide ways of integrating these events into your classroom.
Following the webcasts, visit our Sharing the Dream Web Forum to continue the discussion on TakingITGlobal.

The webcast series also involves students in the actual production of the webcast. Working with technical experts from INSINC, students operate cameras and staff the control booth. The webcast series is designed to provide as many opportunities as possible for students to demonstrate learning and display leadership.
