Students have known about the coming Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games for years. They've followed the news, witnessed the preparation, watched the ads, seen the elation and felt the anticipation of a worldwide phenomenon and one of the most significant events in the history of British Columbia. They are already engrossed in the excitement surrounding the 2010 Winter Games and this is an incredible chance to further engage our students in a meaningful learning experience they will remember for the rest of their lives. The fact that the 2010 Winter Games are being held right here, in our own province, gives BC teachers access to a wealth of unique educational programs and resources. There are so many opportunities to harness the interest and enthusiasm our students feel as the Games approach; so many teachable moments which can greatly contribute to classroom learning. To celebrate the Olympic and Paralympic school year, every school in British Columbia has been sent a package containing a Teachable Moments for the 2010 Classroom brochure and enhanced DVD. The Teachable Moments DVD contains educational resources related to the 2010 Winter Games, including videos, podcasts, teacher guides, brochures and hyperlinks for educators to view, print and use in the classroom. We encourage you to browse the disc or this website and embrace the learning opportunities offered through the 2010 Winter Games programs.
